3:45pm arrival for 4:00pm ceremony

Zealandia, the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary

57 Waiapu Road, Karori, Wellington

Zealandia is less than 10 minutes by car from the Wellington CBD. Make your way to Karori and then take the first left (Waiapu Road) immediately after you pass through the Karori Tunnel.

Directions from the Beehive/Parliament in central Wellington:

• Drive up Bowen Street towards Thorndon
• Turn left at intersection at top of Bowen Street into Tinakori Road
• Travel past Botanic Gardens to the top of Glenmore Street
• Turn left at intersection and go through Karori Tunnel
• After the Karori Tunnel, take first left into Waiapu Road
• The entrance to Zealandia is at the end of Waiapu Road

Zealandia has ample free parking.

A taxi to Zealandia from the Wellington CBD should cost between NZ$15.00-NZ$20.00 one way and take no more than 10 minutes. Wellington Combined Taxis can be contacted on 04 384 4444 and Green Cabs on 0508 4 47336. Zealandia staff will be happy to phone for a taxi for your return journey.

Should you wish to take the bus. The following bus route stops within walking distance to Zealandia:

Ask for the 'Zealandia/Karori Sanctuary' stop. There is a five-minute walk from the bus stop to the Visitor Centre.

Please arrive by 3:45pm – there are several different areas where we can have our ceremony but we won’t know which one we’ll use until closer to the time, when we will know what the wind conditions are! The furthest area is about a 15 minute stroll from the entrance so we request that you arrive by 3:45pm to allow time to walk to this area. The ceremony will start at 4:00pm sharp.

Special message for the ladies – you might like to bring some flats so you can negotiate any gravel footpaths and soft lawn as required! The sanctuary can also be chilly if the sun is not out so bring a wrap for extra warmth and comfort.
